ICYMI: Senator Kim to Vote No on Trump on DHS Nominee Over FEMA

How Trump’s dangerous vision for FEMA is fracturing political support

WASHINGTON, DC - For months, experts and advocates have been sounding the alarm about the Trump administration's chaotic and reckless approach to FEMA. Senator Markwayne Mullin’s nomination as DHS Secretary signals that this administration’s approach on FEMA will not change - that FEMA will remain a political weapon rather than the disaster response agency Americans desperately need.

This week, the political stakes became even clearer when New Jersey Senator Andy Kim announced he will vote against Mullin’s confirmation — citing the Trump administration’s dismantling of FEMA as a primary reason for his opposition.

Senator Kim's opposition underscores what advocates have been saying all along: the administration's approach to FEMA is catastrophic. Under Kristi Noem's mismanagement and with nominees like Mullin waiting in the wings, the agency has faced mass firings, leadership chaos, and open threats of dismantlement.

InsiderNJ: Senator Kim Will Vote No on Senator Mullin for DHS Secretary

On decision to vote NO on Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) to be DHS Secretary:

“This is a referendum upon the Trump administration, what they have done when it comes to immigration, what they've done when they gutted FEMA. And so, I don't support this policy. We're currently in a shutdown with DHS. The White House has clearly signaled that they don't want to move forward on the types of reforms that are needed to be able to push forward on...I cannot support this administration's immigration policies.”
