NEW THIS WEEK: Congressional Democrats Raise The Alarm That FEMA Cuts Leave Communities Vulnerable

WASHINGTON, DC - For over a year, the Trump administration has been systematically dismantling FEMA under Secretary Kristi Noem's incompetent and overtly political leadership. From mass firings of disaster workers to the leaked plans to slash the workforce in half, the administration has treated emergency management as a political playground rather than a life-or-death responsibility.

THEN: Bloomberg revealed this week that Trump's FEMA has quietly dismantled critical programs designed to prepare Americans for disasters before they strike. The administration eliminated initiatives that helped communities build resilience, train emergency managers, and plan for catastrophic events — all while Noem and her political appointees focused on restructuring the agency to serve Trump's agenda rather than protecting lives.

NOW: As the Department of Homeland Security funding fight continues, Congressional Democrats are sounding the alarm that long-term disaster recovery projects across the country could grind to a halt, leaving vulnerable communities in limbo even though FEMA should still be equipped to handle disasters during a shutdown. Thousands of families still rebuilding from hurricanes, wildfires, and floods face the prospect of abandoned construction sites and frozen federal assistance — the inevitable result of an administration that has spent more time politicizing FEMA than ensuring it can fulfill its core mission.

In response, Sabotaging Our Safety advisory council member Davante Lewis released the following statement:

"You can't gut disaster preparedness programs, fire essential workers, politicize emergency management, and then feign surprise when communities are left vulnerable and recovery efforts collapse. This is the predictable outcome of Trump and Noem's chaotic and reckless approach to FEMA — they've systematically dismantled the agency's capacity to protect Americans before, during, and after disasters. This is why we've been demanding FEMA be removed from Noem's mismanagement and protected as an independent cabinet-level agency. When the next disaster hits, communities will pay the price for this administration's incompetence."
