Rep. Casar: Noem Must Resign or be Impeached
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Sabotaging Our Safety was joined by Congressman Greg Casar (D-TX), former FEMA official Jeremy Edwards, and FEMA whistleblower Abby McIlraith to expose how Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s budget and staffing cuts at FEMA have systematically undermining disaster preparedness and put communities in Texas, Georgia, Louisiana, and Florida at risk.
Speakers discussed how Noem’s workforce cuts and burdensome, bureaucratic red tape are creating chaos at the agency and have left Americans vulnerable to disaster. WATCH HERE.
“If a disaster preparedness plan has to be paused when there's a natural disaster, it's not a plan. It's a disaster,” said Congressman Greg Casar (D-TX). “...That's why I was proud to introduce legislation alongside Congressman Joe Neguse to repeal Noem's cuts to FEMA and NOAA. And that is why I am demanding that Noem resign or be impeached. I look forward to working with House Democrats and folks on this call to continue educating the public about these dangerous cuts and fighting to stop the damage.”
“This is not just people on the Democratic side of the aisle trying to score political points against Kristi Noem and the leadership at FEMA. This is people saying, you are hurting our communities, you are hurting the very people that voted for President Trump,” said Jeremy Edwards, FEMA’s Former Deputy Director of Public Affairs. “And this is going to eventually cost people their lives.”
“I see firsthand the pain and trauma that families go through, and how delays and red tape make it even harder on the worst day of their lives. This year, Secretary Noem has dismantled entire programs, canceled contracts, cut staff, censored research, and delayed and denied assistance dollars, ultimately failing the American public,” said FEMA whistleblower Abby McIlraith. “...America deserves, ultimately, a prepared, resourceful, well-staffed, and well-funded FEMA that's ready to assist them the moment they need it.”
“We have to confront an urgent truth. The Federal Emergency Management Agency, the institution responsible for protecting Americans during our darkest hours, has been systematically dismantled. Secretary Kristi Noem has gutted FEMA from the inside,” said Sabotaging Our Safety moderator Lizzy Price.
